The Dimensity family continues to grow and spin ever finer. Now that virtually every price segment from the Dimensity 720 to the Dimensity 1000+ has been covered, the new MediaTek Dimensity 800U arrives. The MediaTek Dimensity 800U is located in the middle point between the MediaTek Dimensity 800 and the MediaTek Dimensity 820, focused on nourishing 5G connectivity to the mid-range and with some additional novelty in terms of connectivity.
The latest addition to the Dimesity 5G family, the 800U is an octa-core chipset built in the 7 nm manufacturing process. It has an eight-core CPU with two Arm Cortex-A76 processors with a clock speed of 2.4 GHz and six Arm Cortex-A55 processors with a clock speed of 2 GHz. The graphics will be handled by the integrated Arm Mali-G57 GPU and there is an independent AI processing unit (APU) and support for LPDDR4x RAM.
The new processor is compatible with 5G with dual 5G SIM and Dual Standby technology. With this MediaTek chipset, the company plans to bring 5G to intermediate smartphones.
The 5G modem integrated in MediaTek’s Dimensity 800U supports sub-6Ghz SA and NSA networks, dual Voice over New Radio (VoNR), and aggregation of two 5G carriers (2CC 5G-CA), which should technically bring faster and more stable 5G connections. It also comes with MediaTek’s UltraSave technology that will extend battery life.
In addition, the processor also supports a high FullHD + screen refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It also supports HDR10 + along with the MediaTek MiraVision PQ engine with HDR optimization for various types of videos.
In-camera support, the chipset supports up to 64MP of a single camera or even a quadruple set of cameras. The camera’s features include integrated APU and ISP to provide a number of AI camera enhancement functions. It also supports Voice on Wake (VoW) and dual-microphone noise reduction technology, which reduces power consumption in the standby mode of the voice assistant.
Because it is aimed at middle-class smartphones, of course, users can expect that in the near future more and more affordable products will have high performance and already support 5G. Unfortunately, there is no information on when the first device with Dimensity 800U will hit the market.
