Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold looks ready to launch, at least in China. The company recently released a teaser on Weibo that, although it doesn’t reveal a precise date, shows the “world’s first foldable laptop” warming up … hinges for its big debut. The only information that the image reveals is the weight: just 999 grams. But it was a fact already known.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold has only one folding screen – a technology we already know in the smartphone world, thanks to products like the Samsung Galaxy Fold ( and successor, when it arrives), the Z Flip or the Moto RAZR.
It had never been seen on computers yet. Lenovo first showed the device in late 2019, and a few months later the final version arrived at CES 2020. The screen is a 13.3 “OLED, 4: 3 ratio, and 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution. The RAM amounts to 8GB and the SSD goes up to 1TB.
We don’t know what the processor is – Lenovo said it’s Intel, it’s next-generation, and it has “hybrid technology,” whatever that means. On the operating system side, however, it is safe to assume that there will be a version of Windows 10 Pro optimized for this type of device – perhaps Windows 10X would have been better, but as we know Microsoft had to postpone it.
