Kubuntu Focus M2 Gen 5 is the new Linux laptop with a 15.6 “2560 x 1440 pixel IPS LCD display with a refresh rate of 240Hz, Intel Core i9-13900HX chip with 24 cores and 32 threads, optional NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 4070 graphics card.
The Kubuntu Focus team equipped this laptop with Kubuntu software (based on Ubuntu’s GNU/Linux distribution), and the new Kubuntu Focus M2 Gen 5 laptops are now available, Prices start at $1,895 (13,341 yuan).
Entry-level price In addition to the aforementioned monitor and processor, the laptop comes with at least 16GB DDR5-4800 RAM, 500GB NVMe storage, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 stand-alone GPU.
Customers can also pay extra for up to 64GB of RAM and 4TB of storage, or they can upgrade themselves: the system has two SODIMM slots and two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe Gen 4 SSDS.
One of the most expensive upgrades is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU: Choosing this option will add $365 to the price of the laptop.
The laptop measures 358mm x 240mm x 24mm (14.1 in x 9.5 in x 1 in), weighs 2.4kg, has an aluminium alloy chassis and comes with an 80Wh battery and 280W power supply.
The laptop is high performance, but battery life is not ideal: up to 4 hours of “moderate use” with an Intel UHD integrated graphics card and up to 2.5 hours with a standalone GPU, with even less time expected for resource-intensive tasks.
The laptop also features dual fans for cooling, a 2MP webcam with a privacy shutter, and a set of ports that include:

The laptop comes with an Intel AX211 wireless card that supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Other features include a backlit keyboard with a numeric keypad, a precision touchpad with a glass cover, stereo 2W speakers and a microphone array.
Kubuntu Focus M2 Gen 5 ships with Kubuntu 22.04 LTS at launch, combining the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS base and KDE Plasma 5.24 LTS desktop environment.
