Apple’s new iOS 17 is expected to be released in June, according to sources. But the iOS 17 update is likely to be modest, as Apple has put a lot of engineering resources into developing its own chips and AR glasses.
But it’s worth noting that the leaks suggest that iOS 17 May allow users to install apps through third-party App stores. This is one of the highlights of the new system. On Feb. 21, iOS 17 will be updated to support model discovery, which will eliminate the iPhone 8 series and iPhone X.
Based on the exposure, the models supported by iOS 17 include iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xr, and iPhone SE (second generation or later).
As you can see, these are all new models from the last few years. The once highly acclaimed iPhone X and iPhone 8 series are not on the list.
iOS 16 was well received by Apple fans when it was released last year. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is tweaking its App Store strategy and will allow users in Europe to download apps from third-party app stores in the future. Apple’s shift follows the publication of the EU’s Digital Market Law, which prohibits unfair competition by companies with gatekeeper status in the online platform economy, in order to ensure the healthy development of the digital economy market, and aims to regulate the operation of large Internet platform companies.

The iOS and Mac OS systems are also key to making users choose Apple devices, and each has its own unique ecology. In particular, iOS is highly closed, which is a huge contrast to Android. A closed system also gives Apple more control over iOS.
