Recent news from foreign media MacRumors suggests that Apple may introduce a periscope telephoto lens on their upcoming iPhone 15 series, marking a historic first for the tech giant. While periscope telephoto lenses have become commonplace on Android phones, they have yet to be included in iPhone models.
Reports suggest the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the first Apple product to feature this groundbreaking technology. This means that the Pro Max version may exclusively occupy the periscope telephoto lens, which usually requires considerable space in the camera.
To accommodate the new technology, Apple may increase the size of the Pro Max version to include the necessary internal space for the periscope telephoto lens. This would likely result in a larger body for the phone.
Adding the periscope telephoto lens to the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to provide an unparalleled 6x optical zoom capability, a vast improvement compared to the 3x optical zoom featured in the iPhone 14 Pro series. According to sources, Apple is currently deciding between two suppliers for the periscope telephoto lens: Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical.
While this news excites Apple fans, some are skeptical about the company’s recent decisions. An editor’s comment suggested that Apple is starting to resemble Android phones and that the company may be deviating from its traditional practices. The editor wonders if Apple will ever use one-inch CMOS and notes that the upcoming iPhone 15 series will indeed have many surprises for fans of the tech giant. Only time will tell what other groundbreaking features Apple has in store.
