After rumors suggest that the new iPad mini or iPad mini 7 may use the same 120Hz ProMotion screen as the iPad Pro, but latest industry analysts have revealed that the iPad mini 7 will not support a 120Hz ProMotion screen.
Responding on Twitter to a question from The Mac Observer’s Jeff Butts about the rumor, display analyst Ross Young said he would be “surprised” if it was accurate, given the LCD panel Apple uses for the iPad mini. Not compatible with ProMotion.
The screen of the current iPad mini 6 is either A-Si LCD or Amorphous Silicon LCD, which is a very cheap screen technology on the market. The manufacturing process is simple, while the iPad Pro uses an Oxide LCD, better known as IGZO, often used in premium smartphones. It has featured in terms of high contrast, refresh rate, and screen resolution.
Suggestions that Apple could plausibly adopt ProMotion for a next-generation iPad mini began to get attention shortly after the identification of the iPad mini 6’s “gelatinous sliding” phenomenon. At the moment, however, they seem to be disavowed by Ross.
This isn’t the first time rumors have surfaced that the iPad mini will switch to a ProMotion screen, as it has been rumored since November last year and claims that Apple tested the screen with Samsung Display.
The latest rumor that the new iPad mini 7 line will come with a ProMotion display comes from a LeaksApplePro account. However, it is unlikely that Apple’s new compact iPad line will be equipped with this technology. Wait and watch it!
