With the gradual popularization of 5G, the VR industry is rapidly picking up. In the first quarter of 2019, global shipments of AR / VR headsets increased by 27.2%. The recently introduced Huawei VR Glass has a lens body thickness of 26.6 mm. This results in almost a third of the lens body thickness of the Oculus Quest and HTC Vivo Pro. It has a weight of about 166 grams and the pins come with a folding design.
The company says the glasses can be adjusted in the myopia range from 0 to 700 degrees and from 55 mm to 71 mm of adaptation distance. It has a breathable umbrella mask and is comfortable while wearing, to avoid discomfort during the sessions.
As for the specifications, it has a screen resolution of 3200 x 1600 pixels. On their screens (LCD technology) this results in a pixel density of up to 1058 PPI. They also offer a total field of view of 90 degrees and an adjustable image refresh rate of 70 or 90Hz. To enhance immersion, they offer 3D sound effects and provide an IMAX giant screen experience.
The company says that the device will have access to 30,000 hours of virtual reality video from the content resources they will make available. To this will be added the three main platforms of live streaming of virtual reality and more than 100 virtual reality games.
The mirror leg of the Huawei VR Glass comes with dual speakers that offer a wide sound field, a built-in dual SmartPA and supports 3D stereo sound. It can also be connected with Bluetooth headphones.
Huawei says the device is ergonomically designed to fit the face. It uses protein leather material that is soft and comfortable, the elastic magnetic suction mask is removable and myopic groups do not need to wear additional glasses. Myopic people are also included in the target user group since glass uses negative diopter lenses.
The price of the new Huawei VR Glass is set at 2999 yuan (about 382 US$ 424). It will be available for purchase in China from this December. No information on its possible international availability has been disclosed.
