We find out today through LetsGoDigital that Huawei has registered new European-level trademarks at EUIPO, with the names of Huawei Mate Smart and Huawei Mate Mini. These are in category 9 that cover smartphones, audio recording devices, smartwatch, hardware, battery charger, and many other electronics to which they can be applied.
Huawei Mate Smart Trademarks were granted on January 29, 2019, and names appear to be clearly intended for future smartphones, perhaps mid-range models. It’s been a while since I saw a “mini” handset in Huawei’s portfolio, while the “Smart” particle is seen for many Chinese phone budget phones.
Huawei Mate Mini Taking into account the fact that at the MWC 2019 Technology Fair we are expecting the launch of the P30 series smartphones, perhaps these newly registered names are associated with phones launched in the summer or maybe in the autumn when Mate models are usually available. There is also the possibility that trademarks will not reach the company’s products at all, being more assured that names are not used by other companies.
