Recently, Huawei quietly introduced a new member to its popular P series, the Huawei P Smart 2021, which is the first smartphone of the brand to feature a center-hole display. Huawei has reached for this design for the first time in its entire huge number of phones. The smartphone is also equipped with a new Kirin 710A processor and a rear Quad camera assembly.
The focus here is a 6.67-inch IPS display, which offers a decent high Full HD resolution with 2400×1080 pixels. The front camera is embedded in a relatively large hole in the display directly below the upper edge, so that part of the screen area is occupied by an enlarged status bar. In addition to these, the fingerprint readers have been placed on the right side of the phone.
Under the hood, the Kirin 710A SoC does the job, which is an octa-core processor with four ARM Cortex-A53 and four ARM Cortex-A73 cores that have been used for several years and reach a maximum of 2.2 GHz. Obviously, Huawei still has a few million of this chip in stock.
The main memory of the Huawei P Smart 2021 is 4GB and there is 128GB of internal flash memory that can be expanded via a microSD card slot. Even in 2020, the radio will still only be via 802.11n WLAN in the 2.4 GHz band, Bluetooth 5.1, and of course LTE. The equipment also includes a 3.5 mm jack connection.
In addition to the front camera with its 18MP resolution and F / 2.0 aperture, there are four other cameras on the back. The main sensor offers 48MP and an F / 1.8 aperture, while an 8MP camera with ultra-wide-angle optics and F / 2.4 aperture is also integrated. There are also two largely superfluous 2MP sensors for depth effects and macro shots.
The battery comes with a positive surprise: the power storage is a full 5000mAh and can be charged quickly with up to 22.5 watts. The port used for this, however, is only a micro-USB connection, which will hardly look contemporary in 2020. With a height of 9.26 millimeters, the P Smart 2021 is not particularly thin because of the large battery.
The operating system here runs Android 10 with the Huawei EMUI10.1, although you have to do without Google’s apps and services. Instead, only Huawei Mobile Services and the Huawei App Gallery are available as replacements.
Huawei P Smart 2021 will be sold in Austria from October for 200 euros (about $232) and will be offered to customers in three color variants – black, gold, and green.
