It was last during Mobile World Congress 2019 earlier this year that Huawei showcased new laptops, but with all the uproar with US authorities and espionage allegations, some have gone under the radar.
In an article published by the popular leak source Evan Blass, he revealed two new models waiting to be released. One is a standard 14-inch device. We suspect this is not a refurbished MateBook X Pro, because it only has an HDMI port that is included with mid-range Huawei devices.
A more interesting variable seems to be the 15-inch – Huawei entered a larger form factor for the first time. Assuming these rumors are true – the power switch appears to be a normal device with a fingerprint sensor.
The upcoming Matebooks may not be the thinnest models we’ve ever seen. Huawei seems to have equipped the 15-inch model with audio output, full-size HDMI output, 3x USB-A ports, and a Thunderbolt 3- compliant USB-C model.
Both models incorporate the fingerprint reader and the slim bezel has a power button on 16: 9 displays. Given the thickness of the housing, these models will probably be supported by Intel’s best Comet Lake-U processors. These new MateBooks are expected to appear in CES or MWC in early 2020.
We have no idea when new laptops will arrive. Huawei announced that they will launch Matebooks in the second quarter of next year, so devices are expected to be available in April 2020. Hopefully, by then the company will have solved its problems with the US government.
