As part of the presentation of the Nova 4 smartphone in China, the Huawei also announced a new version of the laptop, which could potentially compete with the Apple MacBook Air (2018).
According to details announced, Huawei MateBook 13 adopts a full-screen design with narrow frames and almost completely absent. The left and right frames are only 4.4 mm while the display occupies 88% of the available area. As the name suggests, the screen has a diagonal of 13.3 inches of IPS type and with a resolution of 2160 × 1440 pixels.
From this, it derives a 3: 2 form aspect (like that of the Surface ). Since this is an IPS, the display has a wide-angle view of 178 degrees. Among the other specifications of the display, we find a 1000: 1 contrast, a typical brightness of 300nit and minimum of 240nit. Unfortunately, there will not be touchscreen support on the new Huawei Matebook 13.
The handset has a thin metal body of 14.9 mm and weighs only 1.28 KG (thin and light but not like the new LG Gram ). The body is made with diamond cutting technology, complemented by a delicate blasting technology with well-beveled edges.
Huawei also provided information on the laptop’s datasheet, reporting that it is powered by the eighth-generation Intel Core i7-8568U (Whiskey Lake) processor with the lower model using an Intel Core i5-8265 chipset. Both SoCs are eight-core quad-core chipsets and have a TDP of 15W. Huawei Matebook 13 also comes with an NVIDIA MX 150 graphics card, 2GB of GDDR5 independent graphics memory, up to 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM and NVMe solid state drives up to 512GB.
Regarding the dissipation, it has a smart cooling system with double shark fins fan 2.0 along with seven temperature control sensors in real time.
Turning to the analysis of autonomy, the battery capacity is 41.838 Whr (3670 mAh / 11.4 V) with a theoretical duration of about 10 hours. The recharge is another flagship of the laptop, since 15 minutes of charging guarantee 2.5 hours of battery life.
In terms of connectivity, Huawei Matebook 13 can count only two USB-C of which the one on the left with data transfer and recharge and the one on the right data transfer and DisplayPort output. In addition, we also find a 3.5 mm audio jack.
Other features of this laptop include a standard-size island keyboard, power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi chips and Bluetooth 5.0, 1 MP camera, dual-speaker, dual microphone and Dolby Atmos audio support.
Huawei Matebook 13 is available in three colors: Deep Gray Ash, Cherry Powder, and Gold. As for prices, the version with Intel Core i7 is priced at 6399 yuan. However, the Core i5 variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is priced at 4999 yuan. It will be on sale in China from January 1st with pre-orders starting on December 25th.
