Huawei is really serious about folding smartphones. Another flexible device is to be added to Mate X and Mate Xs later this year, which seems to be debuting as Mate V, informs the GSMAren server. Today, Designer Jermaine Smit from the YouTube channel Concept Creator created, based on the latest leaks, the video concept of the “clamshell” Huawei Mate V.
It seems that Huawei’s Mate V has decided to fundamentally change its strategy within the folding mechanism, resp. imitate the style of the South Korean manufacturer Samsung.
Both Mate X and Mate Xs were folded and still folded outwards. However, the Mate V concept suggests that the upcoming smartphone will be folded to the bottom, ie in the style of a book. The same system uses the standard Galaxy Fold.
The device has a main flexible display with “monobrow” for the front camera, speaker, and Face ID sensors, as well as an additional screen on the outside for notifications. In addition, the device’s concept received the main camera with four modules, a ToF sensor, an LED flash, a USB-C charging port, and a power button with a red accent.
Another proof that the device will be composed in this way is its name. Originally referred to as Mate X2, the most recent is expected to debut as Mate V. And the letter V is a key indicates that it will fall in the style of the book – towards the bottom.
The Chinese manufacturer has its new folding smartphone unveiled sometime during October. If it really is Mate V, we expect to see more leaks of valuable information in the coming weeks. According to rumors, Huawei Mate V will cost, like the Galaxy Z Flip, that is about $1300-$1400.
