The Huawei P40 has not yet arrived (except for the Lite model) but on the horizon, the landing of its next catalog leaders is in sight, the members of a Mate line that would release a new processor for the second half of the year. This generation should be called Huawei Mate 40 and Huawei Mate 40 Pro if nothing changes in the way. The Chinese manufacturer works, and there are already some patents giving us clues about them.
As usual in these cases, at LetsGoDigital they have taken the plans of the patent and recreated them in 3 dimensions. And thanks to their renderings we can see in more detail what Huawei intends. The manufacturer has designed a touch ring to wrap the rear camera and allow us to perform various actions. But it goes further: we have notifications on it.
Huawei applied for the patent back in the middle of last 2019 and it has not been granted until this March. Thanks to it, we can see that the manufacturer experiments with a kind of touch control brought to the contour of the rear camera, which in the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro already had a large frame that wrapped the camera module, which his time was round.
In the next step, and applying for this patent
Huawei could keep the same rear design for the Mate 40 but adding touch functions to this outer ring. Functions that, as can be seen, reflected in the patent. It would range from controlling the volume of the phone to acting on the camera itself. This allowing the level of the optical and/or digital zoom to be varied.
Besides, it can be seen in the patent that navigation controls are also included that would be applicable. In theory, both to documents and to the system’s own browser. Apart from this touchpad, the Huawei patented outer ring would also include the ability to display notifications. An interesting functionality for when you have the phone face down, for example, to silence the phone’s sound notifications.
If nothing changes, the new Huawei Mate 40 Series should arrive around September 2020. We will see if the global crisis due to the coronavirus causes delays in the manufacturer’s calendar since the Huawei P40 seems to arrive on time, even if it is through an online event. Meanwhile, we will have to wait for the arrival of the phones to be confirmed. And wait to see if this patent applies to future Mate 40 or not.
