he latest processors developed by Huawei are those that, at the moment, we find inside the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro flagships and their 5G versions: the Kirin 990 and Kirin 990 5G. Announced at the beginning of September, produced with FinFET Plus EUV technology at 7 nm and equipped with an integrated 5G modem combined with the Da Vinci neural processing unit (NPU), these 2 chipsets will most likely power the leading smartphones that Huawei and Honor will release next year, or at least those that will be produced before finalizing the new SoC: the Kirin 1000.
The Chinese manufacturer does not seem to be stopping for a while and its next-generation flagship SoC seems to be already under development. Despite the persistent problems with the USA, Huawei seems intent on gaining important market shares, introducing continuous innovations, to stay one step ahead of competitors.
According to the latest network rumors, the Chinese manufacturer is already starting a test production of the Kirin 1000. It will be the first chipset based on the 5 nm process that will probably debut on the next Mate 40 series, as it has now accustomed us to see Huawei. This means that, according to forecasts, the new Huawei Kirin 1000 will be announced no earlier than the second half of 2020, then in about 10 months.
The Kirin 1000 will present the Arm Cortex-A77 cores announced earlier this year, which were thought to already be present in the Kirin 990, instead of the Cortex-A76 Arm cores. This should guarantee a 20% improvement in performance, further enhanced by the 5 nm process.
Obviously, being a chipset being worked on and missing several months before its commercial debut, there are still no official advances or confirmations from Huawei and there are still many unknown details on this processor, but there will be time to discover them.
