The highlight of the update is the new DC Dimming feature that now comes with a top-end variant from last year’s Mate series. DC dimming allows the phone screen to not blink at low brightness settings. Huawei began favoring the EMUI 9.1 update to the Mate 20 series back in June bringing a new file system, GPU Turbo 3.0 and moon mode in the camera.
The company is now launching a new update for Mate 20 Pro that brings features that were previously available for Huawei P30 Pro. The latest update on Mate 20 Pro shifts the firmware creation number to EMUI 9.1.0.135. The highlight of the update is the new DC Dimming feature that now comes with a top-end variant from last year’s Mate series.
DC dimming allows the phone screen to not blink at low brightness settings. To access this feature, you can go to Settings> Display> Eye comfort and toggle ON Flicker Reduction ON.
DC dimming uses DC voltage to control LED light output instead of relying on Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology which in turn modifies the pulse width of light from time to time to control display brightness. DC Dimming prevents the screen from flickering on the AMOLED panel of the mobile and helps reduce user eye strain.
Huawei will gradually release EMUI 9.1.0.135 updates to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro unit in China and we can expect the same to be launched to the global unit soon. You can manually check for OTA updates by going to Settings> System> About Phone.
