The next Huawei processor is already being manufactured and is on the way. It is called Kirin 985 and represents the next step in the evolution of the chips of the Chinese giant.
This processor will maintain the same 7-nanometer process made famous by the Kirin 980. In addition, we will have the presence of EUV technology. EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet Litography) is a process that uses ultraviolet light to record the silicon chips in an even more compact way. This translates into a more powerful processor and more energy efficient.
Huawei is not kidding when it comes to its processors. The Kirins have been gathering enough attention from their potential with the introduction of artificial intelligence. The previous Kirin 980 has dual neural processing and a 7-nanometer process. Equipment with this processor like the Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro are famous for their performance.
Huawei is now accelerating the research, development and mass production of its own chips. Last year, the number of smartphones with Kirin processors was less than 40%.
However, this year is expected to increase by up to 60%, which will surely happen. Huawei last year expanded the production of chips to the mid-range with the Kirin 710. It is likely that Huawei will only have its low range with Snapdragon processors. The middle and high ranges will all be powered by Kirin processors.
In conclusion, the Kirin 985 promises to be a chip made to rival the Snapdragon 855. The new mobile CPU is expected to arrive with the Mate 30 line in the second half of the year.
