Multiple past rumors have indicated that the Kirin 980 of Huawei, the successor of the Kirin 970 and processor of the next Mate 20 of the firm, will come with Cortex-A77 cores from the ARM. However, the latest and most recent report tells us that these cores do not exist and that, to make the Cortex-A75 succession, the ARM will present Cortex-A76 cores instead, according to Roland Quantd, the famous French technophile, and Ice Universe.
Other specifications have not been mentioned and, apparently, remain intact, such as the 7nm TSMC manufacturing process and the 64-bit architecture in which it will come. According to ARM, Cortex-A76 cores are capable of providing superior performance of up to 35 %, compared to Cortex-A75. In addition, they offer a better energy efficiency of up to 40%, so, not only are they better at speed, but they also offer greater autonomy.

Previously, Huawei released a press release stating that the next Mate series will include the eight-core HiSilicon Kirin 980, but it did not confirm anything about its specifications. The rumors generated from that statement claim that the Kirin 980 will be equipped with Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 cores. The SoC is expected to produce maximum clock speeds of at least 2.8GHz.

I don’t think the new “benchmark tool” leak of the Kirin 980 is to be believed – there is no such thing as an ARM Cortex-A77 architecture. Either that stuff from China is fake or ARM have something to announce alongside Huawei for IFA. The 7nm Kirin 980 will soon be rivaled by the Apple A12 chip, which will power the next iPhones, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855, which is rumored to be official in December.
Finally, this processor will be presented at the IFA in Berlin, Germany, the technology fair that will be held in style. There will be released all the official specifications of Kirin 980, which will also reveal the Neural Processing Unit with which it will come, which promises to be much better than the current processor of the firm. In addition to this, the company could present advances in the section of Artificial Intelligence in the integrated.
