Huawei is a leading manufacturer of smartphones not only in China but in some other countries. In addition, Huawei ranks third in the world in sales of mobile devices after Apple and Samsung. This situation obliges the company to create its own chipsets, not relying on Qualcomm, which continues to dominate the market. Last year, Huawei introduced the single-chip HiSilicon Kirin 970 system, which became the first SoC with artificial intelligence. Nevertheless, in performance, it is inferior to Snapdragon 845, but everything can change with the release of the next generation of Huawei chipsets.
In the fall of this year, the presentation of the Huawei Mate 20 is expected, which is rumored to be equipped with a new chipset Kirin 980. The device has already been shown in AnTuTu, where it scored a record 356 918 points. Kirin 980 will finally be able to compete on an equal footing with Snapdragon 845 thanks to 7nm process technology from TSMC. However, the new SoC will receive support for mobile communications standard 4G + (LTE Advanced) at a time when the largest players in the industry are already preparing for the introduction of 5G.
New rumors say that in early 2019, Huawei could release the Kirin 1020 chipset, which should provide twice as much performance as the Kirin 970. Sources say that as soon as cellular operators launch 5G networks, the company will be ready for mass production of the Kirin 1020, changing for some time the alignment of forces in the market.
