Google has not only released its new Pixel series phone, Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL, but also announced the first VR, Daydream View which is design by Google first and compatible with the Google Pixel to use. Google has launched Daydream Ready certification, but Pixel is the first phone to conform to this standard, of course, there will be more phones to support this VR headset in the near future.
It is different from Gear VR, Daydream View doesn’t need to connect the smartphone, and there is no operation button. But Gear VR owns extra Gyroscope which needs to connect the phone by USB or Type C port. Apparently, Google wants the built in sensor of the phone to operate all instead of the extra sensor.
Google Daydream View provides a remote control for user operation, in this handle, there is a round touch disc and two buttons for better convenient operation which is different from the traditional VR.
In material, it adopts the similar cloth design to Oculus Rift with light weight, it has designed a groove to put the handle in the place of insert the phone. Right now it has grey, red and white available, first batch is grey. Google has also released Google Play store for VR, there are different resource developed for Daydream including movies, Youtube, pictures, etc.
Currently, this Daydream View sells at $79 which is very affordable, and it will start to sell officially in November.
