As early as June, there were reports that Google was developing a new Wi-Fi 6 router, and now the name has been leaked, it is Google Nest Wifi Pro.
The device was certified by the US FCC just over a month ago, and B&H now lists it as a “Google Nest Wifi Pro 6E Router.” The name might just be “Google Nest Wifi Pro,” and the product page confirms support for Wi-Fi 6E, the latest connectivity standard available, up to 9.6Gbps under ideal conditions.
“The core difference between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E is the third bandwidth range, roughly between 6GHz and 7GHz. In general, Wi-Fi 6E does not have a direct impact on the potential speed of a user’s home/office network Impact. Conversely, the 6GHz band is generally less crowded, which means there is less chance of household devices interfering with each other.”
In terms of pricing, a single Google Nest Wifi Pro router is $199, compared to $169 for the 2019 Nest Wifi router and $99.99 for the 2020 Google Wifi. Wi-Fi 5 on current Nest routers offers speeds up to 2.2Gbps.
Nest Pro routers for $299.99 for a 2-pack and $399.99 for a 3-pack, Nest Wifi Pro routers come in Snow (white), Linen (light brown), Fog (light blue), and Lemongrass (light yellow/green) ) are available. This color is consistent with the latest products like the Pixel Buds Pro, the Nest doorbell (battery), and the upcoming Pixel 7.
The Nest Wifi Pro router can also act as a network extender and Google Assistant speaker. The “Pro” naming scheme means the existing Nest Wifi will live on and follow the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel Buds Pro product naming conventions.
The Nest Pro router is expected to be announced alongside the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro and the Pixel Watch at the Made by Google event on October 6.
