As computers get smaller and smaller, the number of developers continues to grow. This new mini PC, known as the GMK NucBox, is another new contender to make its way to the miniature PC market. Apparently we have a competitor for Chuwi’s Larkbox, the mini PC as big as a lemon, which we told you about in this previous news. The new PC takes up very little space and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. The GMK NucBox 4K Mini PC will have a final price of US $209 but has a 24% discount for those who sign up on the Indiegogo website, staying for the only US $159 with 13.3″ 4K Portable Screen.
With its dimensions of 62 x 62 x 42 mm, the GMK NucBox 4K Mini PC is significantly more compact than the usual TV boxes or small computers. Even the weight of 125g is actually nothing for a PC despite the metal housing and with these two features, it is definitely comparable with the LarkBox from Chuwi. Another competitor in the compact segment is of course the Raspberry Pi, which is more aimed at hobbyists.
The Intel Celeron J4125 four-core processor is used as the processor. For once, this is not completely out of date and clocks up to 2.7 GHz. Of course, you have to see how good the GMK NucBox cooling is to see whether it can maintain this performance or whether it has to slow down. One of the features that GMK particularly promotes is 4K support. This is implemented by the integrated graphics processor, the Intel UHD 600. The performance is of course sufficient for office use and for watching movies, but don’t expect to be able to play great with it.
Always included are 8GB LPDDR4 memory, which should be completely sufficient for the purpose. When it comes to storage, you can choose between three SSD sizes. The smallest version of GMK NucBox comes with 128 GB, the next larger with 256 GB and the largest with a 512 GB SSD. So far there is no indication of how the hard disk is installed and how fast it is.
However, due to the small form factor, I assume an M.2 SSD, which you can possibly change yourself. At the same time, the GMK NucBox provides an image output in 4K format and supports Wi-Fi, so it can connect to both wireless networks and various wireless devices, as well as be used for streaming.
Despite the more compact form factor, you don’t have to do without various connections. The GMK NucBox has two USB-A 3.0, an HDMI 2.0, a USB Type-C, and a headphone jack. There is also a MicroSD slot and WiFi AC is also supported and a Bluetooth module is integrated. The operating system is a full Windows 10. If you are more of a fan of Linux, you should be able to install your favorite distribution without any problems.
