Ghana has banned the sale, advertising and recreational use of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) such as e-cigarettes by the public, according to a press release from the Food and Drug Authority (FDA).
However, ENDS products can be registered as prescription drugs for the purpose of smoking cessation therapy.
The Ghana Food and Drug Authority said it had issued a notice to manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and retailers asking them to immediately remove all advertisements on social media, billboards and neon advertisements and stop importing these products.
It said there would be sanctions and penalties for non-compliance.
