German Bionics, the company behind the Cray X, unveiled Apogee, its new exoskeleton, ahead of CES 2023, as well as the Smart SafetyVest, which monitors users and reminds them to follow ergonomics.
German Bionics says the Apogee is its latest and lightest power suit for commercial and industrial use, while the Smart SafetyVest will “provide ergonomic monitoring and protection for each worker.”
Apogee took the lessons learned from developing the Cray X and became German Bionic’s lightest exoskeleton to date, offsetting up to about 30kg of load on the user’s lower back per lift motion and providing active walking assistance to reduce fatigue.
The Smart SafetyVest does not assist the wearer in lifting, but monitors their movements and body posture as they work and provides “data-based, personalized ergonomic insights to evaluate and make recommendations.”
Both Apogee and SafetyVest rely on German Bionic’s Bionic IO architecture to collect, monitor, analyze and report on the user’s ergonomic data, alerting the user through on-board displays and sound when they actively perform unsafe actions.

“Our new wearable gives hardworking people the tools they need to do their jobs more safely and sustainably,” CPO Norma Steller of German Bionic said in the press release. Apogee and Smart SafetyVest are able to provide appropriate support for almost any company or work environment where manual labor is performed. With the Bionic IO data platform, we also provide a powerful analytical tool for workplace ergonomics and processes.”
