The Samsung Galaxy Watch, which will be a successor to the Gear S3, has just passed certification agency FCC suggesting an imminent launch soon. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch on August 9 alongside the Galaxy Note 9, although it is yet to confirm the same. The FCC filing also confirms one more important thing: Samsung’s next smartwatch will be called the Galaxy Watch and not the Gear S4.
The filing also carries with it a schematic of the back of the Galaxy Watch and mentions a few specs. The Galaxy Watch will support LTE and Bluetooth 4.2 LE. It will ship with a 1.19-inch display and measure 51.2 x 43.4mm. Further, the supplied charger (ETA0U60JBE) is said to provide 700mAh of power to the possibly bundled charging dock of the Galaxy Watch. The FCC listing confirms that the watch will come with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. The watch was tested for LTE so the presence of 4G is confirmed.
The Galaxy Watch will be the first smartwatch under the Galaxy branding, presumably as part of Samsung’s move to streamline its family of products under a single naming scheme. The Galaxy Watch will supposedly ship in two models with different sizes and run the Tizen operating system, not Gear OS as previous rumors claimed. It’s also expected to include a host of healthcare and fitness apps that are touted to hit it out of the park.
