In February of this year, Samsung formed a special task force to develop dedicated AP chips for their Galaxy series, which included canceling the mass production plan of their Exynos 2300 and Exynos 2400. The aim was to collaborate with Google to launch Exynos 2500 equipped with NPU. This was a significant move for Samsung, as they now focus on developing chips specifically for their flagship devices.
Now, gammaburst has exposed Exynos 2300 kernel information, revealing that the Exynos 2300 (s5e9935) is code-named Quadra and adopts a 1+4+4 core configuration. The GPU still uses the semi-custom design of the AMD RDNA2 architecture, but it appears to be a part of the Vangogh lite series, code-named Viking. However, the ID is very different from AMD products, suggesting that it is Samsung’s self-developed driver. This aligns with recent rumors that Samsung has recruited many people for this purpose.
The Exynos 2300’s CPU comprises of Cortex-X3 MP1 3.09 GHz, Cortex-A715 MP4 2.65 GHz, and Cortex-A510 MP4 2.1 GHz. Meanwhile, the GPU is Samsung Xclipse 930, which has 4WGP 8CU and operates at 1.4 GHz.
Based on the GPU code and specifications, the Exynos 2400 may use the M2 GPU, seen in the Exynos 2200 and Exynos 2300 indicators. This GPU has 6WGP (12CU = 768SP), 48TMU, 32ROP, and raster performance of 32pix / clk. This suggests that the Exynos 2400 may have significantly improved graphics performance compared to its predecessor.
In conclusion, Samsung’s decision to form a dedicated task force to develop AP chips for their flagship devices is a strategic move that demonstrates their commitment to improving their devices’ overall performance. The leaks regarding the Exynos 2300 and Exynos 2400 suggest that Samsung is investing heavily in research and development to ensure their chips are at the forefront of the market. If these leaks are accurate, Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chip may offer significant improvements in graphics performance compared to its predecessor, making it an exciting prospect for Samsung fans.
