Elephone U2 Pro has just been launched at the Global Sources Electronics Show in Hong Kong. This is meant to be an upgrade to the Elephone U smartphone. It’s equipped with a pop-up dual selfie camera, triple rear camera and powered by the Helio P60 or SDM 845 chipset (not confirmed yet) while running on Android 9.0 Pie. It was on showcase alongside the Elephone A6, Elephone A5, and Elephone Soldier. The manufacturer is working on a new smartphone with a very high ratio of display to housing. In fact, the smartphone will be almost completely borderless and that without a disturbing notch for many.
Elephone is based on the design of the Vivo Nex and sets like the big role model on a pop-out camera. The front camera is therefore in an extendable module, which appears only when needed and thus creates more space for the display. Elephone goes one step further and not only equips the pop-out module with a single sensor but also installs a dual camera.
Today we got a small video of the Elephone U2 Pro from Elephone Booth. We can front camera pops up from the body by launching the dedicated app. But there is something new: inspired by OPPO Find X, even Elephone has decided to integrate the 12MP + 5MP dual-camera in the pop-up trolley, leaving the rear part of the terminal completely free. This photographic module will be accompanied by the Flash LED, while the front one will integrate a 3D Structure Light to unlock the system through facial recognition.
Elephone U2 Pro integrates a 6.42-inch Full HD + AMOLED display (2160 x 1080 pixels) curved on the sides and with ultra-thin frames around, which reduce the thickness and make the phone more manageable.
The frame, characterized by a glossy and iridescent finish, incorporates a 3600 mAh battery that can also support wireless charging. It is still not clear how much RAM / ROM will be installed in the final models, or what processor will power the device: MediaTek Helio P60 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. For sure there will be a USB Type-C, WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G-LTE and NFC.
Will be some other very interesting models from Elephone showcased or at least talked about, because the midrange PX series or even allegedly affordable Elephone A5 will be also featuring the Helio P60 and the mysterious Elephone SX series so far unknown Snapdragon processor. We do not yet know what the sales prices will be, but their launch is scheduled for 2019.
