Xiaomi is a well known company for very good mid range mobiles and for flagships. Xiaomi Mi5S is one of the latest flagships that Xiaomi before some month presented to us. Elephone is a well known company and for mid range and for flagships like P9000 and many more. Only recently presented to us an other flagship, Elephone S7, a clone of Samsung S7, at least at the design. So let us see who is best.
Design
Elephone S7 is made out of metal using CNC technology. Under the main display, we find one physical button, which functions as Home. The same button is also and a fingerprint scanner. Above the display is a front camera lens, speaker and a proximity sensor. The back features a mode that can change colors and helps the whole premium impression. At the bottom part we find the solid- playing speaker grilles with a microphone and a USB type C port in between. The display of S7 is a 5,5- inch IPS LCD with LTPS manufacturing technology. It has FullHD 1920 x 1080 resolution with 480 dpi. It’s slightly curved but not so much as you would expect and it’s protected by 2,5 D glass. Curved keyword just sells and Elephone decided to just copy the Samsung Edge , but without the finesse.
On the other hand the Xiaomi Mi5S has also a unibody metal coat. As before the sides are curved at the rear, giving the impression of a device much smaller than you would expect in the hand, but its newly matte surface makes the Mi5s a lot more grippy, and less easy to drop on to the floor. Unfortunately the screen is not protected by Gorilla Glass protection. At the bottom we find again that USB Type C slot as S7. The display is a bit smaller from the Elehone S7, as it is 5.15inch with a full-HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a pixel density of 428ppi. Xiaomi claims a brightness rating of 600 nits, and it’s certainly not going to cause any problems in direct sunlight. The Mi logo has gone from the front and is moved to the back of the mobile. What is different in this model only (the 6/128GB version doesn’t have this new feature), is the presence of an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. To be exact, Mi5S 3/64 is the only mobile worldwide that has this feature.
Hardware
The Elephone S7 has under the hood the deca-core Mediatek processor Helio X20 (MTK6797M) clocked up to 2.0GHz. For the graphics, the Mali-T880 its has enough power to even appeal to gamers. In the Antutu test S7 scored about 76 569 points which is certainly a solid result. The system is helped by the 4GB Ram and the 64GB of internal storage. And if by any chance you thing the storage is small, S7 supports extra 128GB TF Card Expansion. The S7 has installed Android 6.0.
Xiaomi Mi5S has under the hood the Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 clocked up to 2.15GHz. This is the same processor used by the Google Pixel and OnePlus 3T. For the graphics the Mi5S has the Adreno 530 clocked at 624MHz, which has enough power for all kind of games. The system is helped by the 3GB of RAM and the 64GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, Mi5S doesn’t support expansion card. At Antutu, Mi5S reaches the score of 146.989. Mi5S runs MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0.
Features
The Elephone S7 features a hybrid slot for either two SIM cards or one SIM paired with a microSD card. Supported LTE bands are 1/3/7/20. Elephone S7 supports dual band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n. From GPS, supports A-GPS and GLONASS. The FM Radio is a pleasant bonus and of course it works only with headphones attached. For camera, on the front for selfies, the S7 has a 5 Mpix resolution and f/2,4 aperture. On the rear we find a 13 Mpix resolution, with automatic focus, dual LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. The S7 supports a traditional fingerprint sensor that claims that can unlock your mobile under 0.1 sec.
The Xiaomi Mi5S features also Dual SIM Dual Standby, with Dual NANO Card. It supports from LTE bands the FDD-LTE B1/B3/B5/B7/B8, so if you need of B20, you must think twice. Supports full feature NFC, with 4G+ download speeds, VoLTE, MU-MIMO 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WiFi with WiFi Direct & WiFi Display, Bluetooth 4.2, Bluetooth HID. For camera, on the rear we find a 12 MP Sony IMX378 PDAF Back Camera and on the front we find a 2µm-pixel 4 MP Front Camera. This version of the mobile features the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that can understand your finder under any circumstance, even if your finger is wet or with mud! But must be careful, as only this version of the mobile supports this feature. The 4/128 version of the mobile, has a usual fingerprint sensor with a dual back camera.
Battery
The Elephone S7 is equipped with a 3000mAh battery, that support 5V2A Quick-charge.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi5S has a little better battery, since it is a 3200mAh(typ) / 3100mAh(min), 9V 2A which supports Quick Charge 3.0.
Conclusion
So who is the winner? Elephone S7 has a bigger display, more memory, supports extra storage, has FM radio and the display is protected by 2,5 D glass, supports B20. On the other hand, XIaomi Mi5S has the unique feature of ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, has a little better battery, reaches higher at Antutu. Both of them are very good for the reason someone might want them. From what I have searched around, the Elephone S7 is almost at the half price from the Xiaomi Mi5S, something very important nowadays. So, if you want a very good mobile at a low price, I have found Elephone S7 at cafago.com for only 233.89$.
