Dyson’s iconic Supersonic hairdryer hasn’t changed much since its launch in 2016, and the brand recently unveiled a completely different looking new model named the “Supersonic r” at New York Fashion Week.
The Dyson Supersonic r is a tubular hairdryer that resembles a submarine periscope and weighs only 325 grams, which is significantly less than the original Supersonic (560g).
According to the report, the Supersonic r blower mainly improves the heating components, changing the original large head to a small curved design, and the small heating grill composed of 99.9% copper microfibers is arranged along the curve of the pipe to ensure that the high-pressure air is heated evenly with high precision (through intelligent heating control).
The new hair dryer supports three precise airflow Settings and four heating modes (including constant cold air), and the air intake at the bottom of the handle is now equipped with a longer duration depth filter that absorbs air pollutants commonly found in hair salons.
The Supersonic r hairdryer also incorporates improvements to the motor in the handle section and is equipped with an RFID sensor to identify magnetic accessories, a feature that allows the hairdryer to automatically adjust the motor and heater accordingly to provide optimal airflow and temperature. For example, the diffuser nozzle can be set to low wind speed and low temperature, and each accessory can also remember the user’s custom Settings.
The Dyson Supersonic r hairdryer is priced at $570 (Igeekphone note: currently about 4,104 yuan), and is currently only available to professionals – American hair stylists with beauty licenses, and price information is expected to be announced later.
