Dynabook has unveiled its new 14-inch flagship laptop, the Portege X40L-K, which will start at $1,799.99 and launch online in April.
Dynabook is known for making extremely light laptops, and its Portege line is one of the lightest notebooks in the world. At 2.3 pounds, the X40L-K isn’t the lightest 14-inch laptop on the market, but it’s close. Currently, only a handful of 14-inch notebooks weigh less than 2.2 pounds, including the Asus ExpertBook B9 and LG Gram 14, and the Acer Swift 7, which weighs less than two pounds, but hasn’t been updated in years.
Portege X40L-K is light, but not particularly thin. Dynabook claims that there are no problems with robustness and that the device is designed to meet mil-STD-810H standards, which typically include drop tests, stress tests, etc.
In terms of specs, Dynabook says the Portege will be Evo Program certified, with 12th generation P-series I5 and I7 processors and up to 32GB of LPDDR5 memory, powered by Intel’s Iris Xe set display.
The Portege X40L-K has one Thunderbolt 4 port, as well as one HDMI and two USB-A ports. Up to four external monitors can be used, including a 16:10 display that supports blu-ray reduction and Dolby Atmos audio through speakers.
Portege X40L-K battery is only 65Wh and, on the software side, offers a feature called Dynabook online meeting Assist that “uses artificial intelligence to ensure faces are bright and visible under a wide range of lighting conditions.” It also features 360-degree dual-array microphones and artificial intelligence noise reduction.
