Doogee has officially introduced the S59 Pro. It offers a huge battery, extreme durability, great price, loudspeakers, and much more. Of course, the price had to fall elsewhere. For example, a display or chipset is not what a phone would boast of. However, for someone who often works in the field and his phone constantly falls under the excavator, Doogee S59 Pro is an ideal purchase.

Design
The Doogee S59 Pro follows the design of other outdoor smartphones. It’s made of plastic, rubber, and metal. On the back, there is a large camera element that is arranged in the middle. Some symbols and Doogee lettering are placed below. We didn’t find a fingerprint sensor there, as it is integrated into the on / off switch in the frame. There is also the SIM slot, in which either two Nano-SIM cards or a Nano SIM card and a microSD card can be inserted. USB-C is used as a connection. Doogee does not clearly communicate whether an audio connection is also installed, but no corresponding adapter is included in the scope of delivery.
The 5.71-inch display is on the front. The selfie camera is housed in a compact waterdrop notch. Corning Gorilla Glass is used to protect the panel. Overall, the Doogee S59 Pro is certified according to IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810G and is therefore very robust and sealed against water and dust. The Doogee S59 Pro appears in black, green, and orange. However, only a few areas of the outdoor smartphone are accentuated in terms of color; the basic color is always black. The built-in metal has a slightly brushed look and is held in dark gray. The exact dimensions and weight are not yet known.
Hardware
Doogee relies on the old MediaTek Helio P22, an eight-core processor with a clock frequency of up to 2.0 GHz each. In itself, this is a solid chip that is used in many smartphones. In the meantime, however, it can clearly be seen as a budget chip, it is used in various models that cost around 100 euros. We would have liked a more powerful processor in the much more expensive Doogee S59 Pro, for example, the Helio P30 or P60.
We have nothing to complain about when it comes to the memory, which is more than sufficient in size at 128 gigabytes and is also expandable. With four gigabytes, the RAM is also in line with the price – much more would probably not make sense in combination with the old chip. Particularly noteworthy is the huge battery. 10,050 mAh is quite a lot, and the energy-saving processor, in particular, should allow great runtimes. Such large batteries in smartphones with rather small displays are very rare!

Features
The 5.71 inch LCD display of the Doogee S59 Pro offers an “HD +” resolution. Unfortunately, there is no more detailed information, except that it offers wonderfully lively colors and contrasts. So far, however, we have not seen a smartphone where the manufacturer is not convinced that the display is wonderful. Especially because of the low resolution, we wouldn’t expect the S59 Pro’s screen to be one of the most important arguments in favor of the smartphone.
And what about the cameras? After all, there are five of the – four on the back, one on the front. Let’s start with the selfie camera: Doogee S59 Pro has a solid 16-megapixel resolution. Various AI effects can be applied to the photos in the software. Of course, this also works with the recordings of the main cameras: 16 megapixels (main camera, wide-angle) + 8 megapixels (ultra wide-angle) + 8 megapixels (macro) + 2 megapixels (depth information). The macro camera in particular has a surprisingly high resolution, so we’re particularly excited about the recordings.
Like other current Doogee smartphones, the Doogee S59 Pro also offers an underwater mode. This can be activated in the camera app and deactivates the touchscreen, which no longer works correctly under the water surface. The recordings are then triggered by the buttons in the frame of the housing. Doogee is in for a splash here: 2G / 3G / 4G including LTE band 20, NFC & Google Pay, GPS, WLAN, and Bluetooth are actually all you need. Unfortunately, there is no more detailed information, which is why we are not assuming WLAN 6 and Bluetooth 5. Presumably older versions are on board, as is the case with most inexpensive smartphones.
Conclusion
The huge argument for the new outdoor smartphone from Doogee is the battery; which should easily provide several days of runtime. In combination with the small display and thus also the rather compact housing, the Doogee S59 Pro has virtually no real competition. But if you look at the display and the processor, you quickly notice that savings have been made here. With other outdoor smartphones in this price range, you simply get more at these points!
