The Chinese tablet and notebook specialist Chuwi presented the HeroBox. This is a mini PC with Windows 10. The HeroBox is the successor to the Chuwi GBox and Chuwi GBox Pro and is primarily intended to hunt for buyers with better equipment. Thanks to its compact size and good hardware, Chuwi HeroBox can be perfect as a living room media center to watch 4K videos in the company of the family. The advantages of Chuwi HeroBox, are the compact size, good hardware, and ultra low power CPU.
The Chuwi HeroBox is similar to its predecessor. The metal case is black and comes with subtle red accents. The abundance of connections has also been retained. In plain language this means: 2x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, 1x USB-C, 1x Micro-SD, 1x DC-12V, 1x VGA, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x 3.5mm jack and 1x RJ-45 (LAN). Inside the HeroBox there is office-compatible technology.
An Intel N4100, eight gigabytes of RAM and an SSD with 180 gigabytes of storage capacity are installed. The Intel N4100 has been on the market for over two years but can still impress with its efficiency and solid performance. A Windows 10 operating system is preinstalled on the HeroBox. Since the manufacturer owes us a more specific specification, we assume Windows 10 Home. According to Chuwi, various Linux distributions such as Debian (Ubuntu) or Fedora also run smoothly on the HeroBox.
The Mini PC also supports storage expansion with SATA disks up to 2TB, to be able to host large quantities of multimedia files (photos/videos) in a few simple steps. Just unscrew the rear panel, remove it and insert a 2.5-inch drive (SSD / HDD) in the dedicated slot, using the two supports and the four screws provided in the package to keep the disk in position. And then close everything.
The interface kit consists of a USB Type-C, two USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, a slot for micro SD, HDMI, VGA to connect other devices/peripherals, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac WiFi. HeroBox runs on Windows 10, but also supports Linux distributions such as Ubuntu to meet the needs of users who are supporters of “free software”.
Chuwi HeroBox can, therefore, be a good choice for those looking for a fanless Mini PC for the living room for multimedia activities: it is powerful enough to manage high definition videos, it is silent because it has no fan and it is also one of the cheapest models.
