In every house you can find at least one TV set. Unfortunately not all TV sets are Smart TV, having the ability to connect to the internet or play video, hear some music. Having a TV Box gives you the ability to do all these things very easily. Also, if this TV Box has and Kodi installed, you can see movies over the internet or TV Series and many more. Also these things Mecool is willing to give to us, at a very low price with it’s latest model Mecool M8S Pro, that comes in three versions. I was lucky to get one from Geekbuying, where I found it at a very low price and be able to review it for you, to see how really good it is.
The Mecool M8S Pro TV Box came to me with mail, well protected from hits and falls. Opening the package came across a white box. On the top side is written Android Media Player and on the other side is written M8S Pro with some basic specs under the name. On the one side we find a sticker, saying Mecool M8S Pro 2GB DDR4 / 16 GB eMMC.
Opening the box, the first thing you see in the Mecool M8S Pro, protected in a bag. The M8S Pro is really very small, one of the smallest I have ever reviewed. It comes in black color, with a lot of gaps so it won’t get hot. It features 1 x HDTV output 2.0 4K x 2K @ 60Hz, 2 x High speed USB 2.0 which support U DISK and USB HDD, 1 x TF CARD slot which can take external cards up to 32GB for expanding the internal storage, 1 x 3.5 Phone out CVBS&L/R output and 1 x RJ45.
Under the M8S Pro you can find a sticker with all the information about the TV Box. When is on, you can see a blue light, indicating that the Mecool M8S Pro is active. When is off, the place takes a red light, so to know in what condition you have left your TV Box.
Opening further more the box that contains the Mecool M8S Pro, you will find inside a detailed manual in English, a HDMI cable, the power adapter and the remote control that needs 2 AAA batteries to operate (batteries are not included).
Now is time to connect your Mecool M8S Pro to your TV set. Set as input source the HDMI and connect the tv box to an HDMI slot of your TV. What happens next, you can see in details in the 2 video that come at the end of this review.
In few words, Mecool M8S Pro, comes with 64 bit Octa core Amlogic S912 ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and for GPU has the ARM Mali-T820MP3 GPU up to 750MHz (DVFS). For RAM has 2GB DDR4 and for internal storage 16GB EMMC Flash which can be expanded with an other 32GB through external TF card. As for OS is using Mecool OS, which is based on Android 7.1. The Mecool M8S Pro supports dual WiFi connection at 2.4GHz and 5GHz and you can see it at the video that connects at my 5GHz WiFi network. It also supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac QCA9377. For connecting with other devices, uses the Bluetooth 4.1+HS. At my video review I have connected a wireless bluetooth mouse that worked perfectly! The Mecool M8S Pro also features a ethernet slot that supports up to 100M speed communication.
The Mecool M8S Pro comes with Google Playstore installed, Youtube, Netflix, MX Player, but not Kodi. In the video review you can see that I have installed the latest version of Kodi 17.3, without any problem. On the left side of the main home screen, there is a option to install a TV Center, which according to Mecool this is Kodi, but to be honest, I tried the clean install from Playstore. So, I went over to Playstore, searched for Kodi and installed the latest. In the video you can also see that plays without any glitch, a 720p video that I had in a external HDD and several 4K video from Youtube. The Mecool M8S Pro is really fast and that is because of the DDR4 memory that has.
The Mecool M8S Pro, as you have seen and in the video, is really very good, fast and reliable to do what you ask for. There are three versions of it as I told you and the good thing is that you can find all three versions in a very low price at Geekbuying, since they are sold in Flash Sales for the next 3 days. You can find the 3GB RAM/16GB ROM, the 2GB RAM/16GB ROM and the 3GB RAM/32GB ROM at Geekbuying to choose what is better for you and buy. The version I got from Geekbuying and you saw in the two video is the 2/16 version.
