At the CES 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, OnePlus’ first Concept One was officially released. The OnePlus Concept One looks beautiful, covered in papaya leather used in McLaren supercars. OnePlus Concept One applied electrochromic technology to mobile phones for the first time. This technology is generally applied to aircraft and sports car glass. This technology enables glass to achieve reversible changes in color and transparency under the action of an electric field. When it was used in mobile phones, “latent hidden rear camera” came into being.
The seemingly isolated glass panel is actually made up of five ultra-fine layers with a vital electrochromic material in the middle. All in all, OnePlus says they have been working with “the thinnest electrochromic glass panel in the industry.” More importantly, the transition time from opaque to transparent is fast, about 0.7 seconds.
In addition, this electrochromic glass does seem to have some practical advantages, such as being able to act as a neutral density filter for cameras. Long story short, it can reduce the amount of light entering the camera by about three stops, so you can shoot wide-angle lenses with a lot of bokeh in Pro mode without worrying about overexposure. They are also very helpful for shooting videos in bright situations.
