The BlackBerry era may have ended, but there are those who are still trying to recover keyboards on smartphones, such as London-based Planet Computers unveiled the Astro Slide 5G smartphone at CES 2022. Featuring a foldable design, the Nokia 9000 Communicator can be unfolded to use the backlit QWERTY keyboard panel. 5 levels of brightness adjustable, comes with a 6.39 inch AMOLED (2340 x 1080 pixels) display, protected by Gorilla Glass.
The Astro Slide 5G is a slider smartphone with a physical keyboard. In terms of design details, you may think of old Nokia phones or more recent BlackBerry phones. This product, on the other hand, is a more up-to-date model compared to them.
The product has a 6.39-inch OLED display technology. As you can imagine, this is a touch screen. The screen, which offers FHD + resolution, also gets help from Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection technology on the durability side. It’s not up-to-date technology, but it’s better than nothing.
Powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 800 5G chipset, the Android-based phone has 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. If desired, it is also possible to expand the memory with a microSD card. The most striking aspect of the Astro Slide 5G is that it has a large physical keyboard. Thanks to this keyboard, it is aimed that you can move more easily, especially in social media browsing and e-mail exchanges.
When we look at the back of the phone, we see that there is a 48MP Sony camera sensor. At the same time, we can say that the fingerprint reader sensor is positioned on the back. With dual sim support and a Type-C port, the phone has a 4000mAh battery and a 30w fast-charging system. It should also be noted that it supports the Qi standard for wireless charging.
Planet Astro Slide 5G deliveries are planned to begin in March of this year and have asked for $650 for the outlandish device.
