In addition to the Beta 3 releases of iOS 15.5 / iPadOS 15.5 and macOS Monterey 12.4, Apple today released a new “iOS 15.5” firmware Beta designed for Studio Display, The specific version is 19F5062g. Earlier tests said The Studio Display was pre-installed with iOS 15.4.
Apple promised a firmware fix for Studio Display in March to fix the webcam issue, and an Apple spokesman said today’s firmware beta does fix the webcam issue.
Studio Display has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera that supports center portraits, but Studio Display users consistently found that the camera produced grainy, faded images, which Apple said prevented the system from working as intended. This firmware brings updated “camera adjustments, improved noise reduction, contrast and framing”.
All Studio Display models are capable of receiving wireless firmware updates, but this firmware update is limited to macs currently running macOS Monterey 12.4 Beta. After installing macOS 12.4 Beta, Studio Display users can go to System Preferences > Software Update to install the firmware.
