iOS 17.4, currently available to Beta testers, was revealed to have made major changes to Apple Cash. According to information discovered by Reddit users, Apple Cash users can now set up a virtual card number that can be used to make purchases when online payments with Apple Pay are not available.
Apple Cash is Apple’s prepaid debit card, which users can only use through Apple Pay and does not have any card number. Money on an Apple Cash Card can also be sent to friends and family, transferred to a bank, or deposited into an Apple Card balance.
In iOS 17.4 Beta 1, Apple is giving Apple Cash customers a new way to spend money even if Apple Pay is not available. The new pop-up message in the IT Home Wallet app is as follows:
After choosing to set the Apple Cash virtual card number, users can view the card number, generate a new card number and security code. This is essentially the same feature that the Apple Card credit card has offered since its launch, and now also applies to the Apple Cash debit card.
The new Apple Cash virtual card number looks to be rolling out to iOS 17.4 Beta 1 test users, but may not yet be available for all Apple Cash accounts. The official version of iOS 17.4 is expected to be released to the public in early March.
