According to foreign media reports, Apple approached Sanden, a Japanese car air-conditioning company, for help two years ago, and provided the drawings of the electric car to Sanden.
According to people familiar with the matter, in January 2020, a man who claimed to be Apple’s parts manager told Japanese auto supplier Sanden that Apple wanted to produce electric cars and needed help from Sanden in high-performance components. Then, he calmly showed a schematic diagram of an electric car and air-conditioning components.
Apple and Sanden continued to discuss specific component requirements. But with the raging new crown virus pandemic, the cash flow of Sanden is getting worse and worse. In June 2020, the company and its creditors conducted out-of-court negotiations on debt settlement, and the prospect of joining the Apple car project has also become bleak.
Although the report did not provide more details about the negotiations between the two companies, it further confirmed Apple’s long-rumored electric car ambitions.
In November 2021, well-known reporter Mark Gurman (Mark Gurman) reported that Apple is accelerating the development of electric vehicles, with the goal of developing an electric vehicle with fully autonomous driving functions. Gullman said that Apple’s goal is to release in 2025, but it is said that the project has encountered many setbacks in the past few years, so the launch time is uncertain.
