Android 13 made its initial debut on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets in August 2022, but its arrival on TVs has been quite delayed. Despite this, Google’s long-awaited final version of Android TV 13 has finally been released, albeit with some restrictions.
Google officially announced the quiet rollout of Android TV 13 to actual hardware on their developer page. Although Google had previously declared the official launch of Android TV13 at the end of last year, it was not immediately available for download on ADT-3 devices. However, as of February 1, 2023, users who own an ADT-3 developer device can now download the update from Google’s official website. The latest update description from Google reads, “The final version of Android13 for TV is now available”.
The only device currently capable of running this new version of Android TV13 is the ADT-3, which has been discontinued for some time. Nevertheless, there are rumors that the upcoming ADT-4 products will soon be able to support Android TV13.
The Android TV13 update brings several behind-the-scenes improvements to the platform, including changes to HDMI, input processing, audio, new accessibility features, and more. This latest version of Android TV is available for both the Android TV experience and Google TV, which has rapidly become the default operating system for new hardware.
