Alldocube brings a breath of fresh air to the world of budget China laptops, which have largely re-invented the same hardware over the past few years. The Alldocube GTBook relies on the relatively new Intel Celeron N5100 processor, which belongs to the Jasper Lake generation. Despite passive cooling, the 10nm chip enables significantly more power at prices that are still affordable.
Design
The Alldocube GTBook relies on a relatively independent design, which is less based on a MacBook, as is often the case with Chinese laptops. The notebook is only available in silver, which is a rather dark color. What is striking about the Alldocube GTBook is the depression in which the keyboard is located, which extends to the edge of the case.
The Alldocube GTBook consists largely of aluminum. This applies to the entire display with the exception of the frame around the panel, as well as to the notebook’s base plate. Both components are made of one piece of metal and are built quite solidly.
The Alldocube GTBook also comes with a keyboard light. However, the lettering on the keys can be seen very well even without the backlight. The lighting brightens both the lettering and the outlines of the keys and is surprisingly homogeneous for the price range. The touchpad has a comfortable size and occupies the entire space below the keyboard. The Alldocube GTBook uses a clickpad design.
Display
The display is a 13.5-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels in a 3:2 aspect ratio and 100% sRGB color space coverage. This high resolution and format only apply to a few devices in the low-cost segment. The maximum brightness of the display is given as 480 nits. That also exceeds the usual standard of 300-400nits.
Hardware
The processor is based on an Intel Celeron N5100 from the 1st quarter of 2021. It is still relatively new, but the N series was never known for its outstanding performance. This is also the case here, because the quad-core processor achieves a performance of 1.1 GHz up to 2.8 GHz . An integrated Intel UHD GPU is responsible for the graphics, with a maximum speed of 700 MHz. The processor is flanked by 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and a 256 GB SSD. However, the hard disk space can be expanded using an M.2 SSD. Unfortunately, it is not clear whether this is an additional slot or whether the original SSD has to be replaced.
Battery
The entire system is powered by a 60.5 Wh battery. This should be enough for a standby time of up to 72 hours. In everyday use, depending on your use, you will probably end up with between 6-8 hours of battery life. However, the battery is not charged via USB-C, but normally via a power supply unit with a round DC plug. On the positive side, however, it should be mentioned that the USB Type-C port also supports 36 watts PD.
Features
In terms of connections, the Alldocube GTBook13 is quite well-positioned. You will find a USB Type-C port, a USB-A 3.0, an HDMI 1.4, a 3.5mm jack, and an SD slot. Here you might wish for one more USB-A connection, but you can use the USB-C port and a USB hub to make up for it without falling into financial ruin. However, it is positive that the USB-C port supports 36 watts of PD (Power Delivery).
Verdict & Buy
The Alldocube GTBook13 brings a much-needed upgrade to the world of budget China laptops in the $300 range. The Alldocube GTBook cuts a fine figure as an inexpensive surfing and typewriter with decent workmanship and modern design. The qualitatively decent display, the excellent backlit keyboard, and the amazingly good multi-touch trackpad are a lot of fun.
