Xiaomi Mi 7 can become the “victim” of Xiaomi’s eighth birthday. The company wants to emphasize its jubilee and present Xiaomi Mi 8 instead of Xiaomi Mi 7. Another report, in this case, claims that Xiaomi Mi 7 will rise, and the name will change the plus version.
Information about the release of Xiaomi Mi 7 is contradictory. Some sources claim that the debut of the flagship Xiaomi has been postponed to the third quarter because the company has a problem with refining the 3D face recognition system. Others argue that all such problems have already been resolved and may soon debut … Xiaomi Mi 8.
Change the number to celebrate your birthday
Skipping the numbering in the names of smartphones is not unusual. There are no such models as OnePlus 4, Samsung Galaxy Note 6 or Huawei P11 on the market. Each of the above-mentioned examples was created for a different reason – from superstition (4 is an unlucky number in China), the desire to level the numbering with another flagship (Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S7) or underline a large technological jump (and the P20 looks better than P11).
It will not surprise me if Xiaomi really decides to take a similar step and successor to Xiaomi Mi 6 will be directly Xiaomi Mi 8. The manufacturer will celebrate his eighth birthday this way. In China, similar practices are nothing extraordinary.
Or maybe Xiaomi will do it differently?
A second report in the same case claims that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will rise, however, the alleged Xiaomi Mi 7 Plus will no longer be called that. We do not know the formal name yet, but this model is referred to as the Xiaomi 8th Anniversary Edition. Regardless of which side is right, something seems to me that Xiaomi really combines in this topic.
Premiere in May?
Despite other information about the name of this year’s flagship Xiaomi, both sources agree on one thing: the date of its launch. If the information they provide will work, the Xiaomi Mi 7 / Xiaomi Mi 8 / Xiaomi premiere will take place at the end of May and the smartphone will go on sale in China already in June.
Jubilee model with a new function
The better version of the Xiaomi flagship, let’s call it jubilee, is the only one to offer a 3D face recognition system. Everything indicates that it will be the first Android smartphone that will offer this technology. We still do not know what fate awaits the fingerprint reader under the screen, which is a pity – in my opinion, this solution is much more interesting than facial recognition. Finally, I must warn you that the above information may or may not be confirmed in reality, so treat it with a wince.
