With the Elephone A4, the Chinese manufacturer presents a surprisingly good iPhone X Clone with a low price. In addition to a 5.85-inch display with Apple’s familiar cutout, the smartphone has a current Android 8 system, a new Mediatek MT6739 processor, and 3GB RAM. The smartphone will soon be sold through the Coolicool for under 130USD.
Design
In terms of design, the Elephone A4 has become a real eye-catcher for being an entry-level or budget smartphone. The smartphone is surrounded by a chic frame made of stainless steel, which has a pleasant rounding and is held in glossy optics. The back is made up of highly reflective glass with a slightly different vertical bar in color, extending to the left of the camera module to the Elephone logo. This reminds a little of the back of the Huawei P10 Pro, which also carries such a beam, but it is aligned horizontally. The available colors are black and gold.
Display
The Elephone A4 features a 5.85-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The display is almost rimless at the top, left and right and has a cut-out for the Phone receiver, the sensors, and the front camera. In return, the lower edge of the display has been reduced to a minimum, since there is no need to clear space for a front camera, as would be the case with a Tri-Bezel-Less design. Sure, you can argue about the notch, but in the case of the Elephone A4, the design looks very well done. If the Notch is well integrated on the software side, nobody should be bothered by it. According to Elephone, the A4 should be smaller than an average 5.5 “smartphone, but concrete dimensions have not yet been released.
Hardware
Inside the Elephone A4 is a Mediatek MT6739 processor, one of MediaTek’s latest starter chips. This is based on four ARM Cortex A53 cores with a clock of 1.5 GHz and relies on a PowerVR GE8100 GPU with 570MHz. The Elephone A4 combines the processor with 3GB RAM and 16GB memory. Yes, the storage is indeed quite small, which is not a big problem if you can live with a SIM card. In this case, the memory can be expanded with a Micro SD card.
Camera & Battery
The camera is probably only 8 megapixels, but often with cheaper smartphones eh 8 to 13 interpolated, so that sounds like more. So it could still be ok. Front there are 5 megapixels. Elephone uses a 3,000mAh battery for the power supply, which is charged with 5V / 2A. Unfortunately, this is still done via a micro USB port. This of course means, of course, Elephone A4 still has a 3.5mm connector for headphones on board.
Connectivity & OS
When it comes to wireless, the Elephone A4 offers support for LTE including Band 20 (Cat-4 DL / Cat-5 UL), Bluetooth 4.2, a / b / g / n Wi-Fi and GPS, GLONASS and BDS for localization. The Micro USB port provides OTG support for using peripherals and storage media. As far as the cameras are concerned, Elephone sets a good example and does without a useless fake dual camera set-up. Instead, you put on a single front and the main camera. The front camera is based on a 5MP sensor, the main camera on an 8MP sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. The sensor of the main camera is an unspecified sensor from Samsung. Both on the front and on the back there is an LED flash. The Elephone A4 will be equipped with the new Android 8.1 Oreo system.

All in all, the Elephone A4 seems to be an attractive smartphone for anyone who wants to put more emphasis on the design than on the features and still want to spend little money.
