Samsung is reportedly working on the new Exynos 9820 chipset. Since the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones that aimed towards markets outside of the U.S., Canada and China are powered by Exynos 9810 chipset, it is speculated that the Exynos 9820 may power the Galaxy S10 that may debut in the first quarter of next year. However, some are also speculating that the Exynos 9820 will be found under the hood of the Galaxy Note 9 flagship that is expected to debut in the third quarter of 2018.
There is no information available on the specifications of the Exynos 9820 chipset. However, its existence has been known since it has been found listed in the list of projects by one of the engineers who is also working on Samsung’s 5G chip. The Exynos 8910 chipset that powered the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ is the first generation 10nm SoC from Samsung. The Galaxy S9 duo are powered by the second-generation 10nm chipset. It is speculated that the Exynos 9820 won’t be a 7nm chipset because the smaller manufacturing process SoC is expected to be ready by early 2019. Hence, rumors are claiming that the Exynos 9820 will be yet another 10nm chipset by Samsung that will deliver higher clocking speeds. Perhaps, it may cross the 3 GHz clocking speed barrier and it is likely to carry support for 5G connectivity.
Since the Samsung Exynos 9820 is speculated to be an incremental update, it may first arrive on the Galaxy Note 9. The phablet hitting the U.S., Canada and China may feature the Snapdragon 845, but other markets may get the improved Exynos 9820 variant.
