The Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek has decided, in recent times, to concentrate its efforts on the “P” line of its SoCs, the one destined for mid-range devices. The results of these efforts are starting to show up, as more and more “P” series processors are ready to make their debut. The last sighted, in order of time is the MediaTek Helio P60, which has peeped out on Geekbench. The scores obtained are very interesting, as well as the fact that they could officially see the light during MWC 2018.
The chip seems to be mounted on a prototype, not on a commercial smartphone. From the datasheet, we learn that the device mounts Android 8.1 Oreo and has 4GB of Ram. Precise details on the configuration of the processor, however, there are none. We know that it will be 8-core and that its maximum frequency is close to 2 GHz.
As you can see in the image above, the processor model is described as “MTK P60 MWC Demo”, an obvious description that the new chipset can be tested during the Mobile World Congress in a variant made for the fair. As a result of the run in the single-core test, the chip is gaining 1524 points and in the multicore processor – 5871.
From single-core scores, it seems legitimate to exclude the “usual” ARM Cortex-A53, which fails to reach those levels. More generally, it seems that the chip power is more or less at the same level as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660. In short: a configuration with 4 high-power Cortex-A73, perhaps flanked by 4 Cortex-A53s for less heavy operations, seems very plausible.

Furthermore, the name ” MTK P60 MWC Demo ” suggests that the SoC will be presented during MWC 2018. Also during the fair, we also know, thanks to the Chinese manufacturer Ulefone, that even the MediaTek Helio P70 will officially see the light. The unpublished SoC will be under the body of the interesting Ulefone T2 Pro, about to be presented during the fair. On the other hand, we do not have information about the timing of the presentation of two other members of the “P” series: the Helio P40 and the Helio P38.
