Huawei has a new Android tablet in the pipeline with the MediaPad M5 – and the release seems to be within reach. The high-end model recently visited the US Federal Communications Commission ( FCC ). Such an institution must control each mobile device in the country in which it is to be sold. Photos and hardware details also came to light through the FCC entry. Although a SIM card slot is installed, a traditional headphone jack has been omitted.
Tablets have a hard time with consumers, which should be partly due to the ever-increasing screen size of smartphones. A diagonal in the range of 6 inches is slowly becoming the standard on many mobile phones, which is why smaller tablet computers, in particular, find relatively few customers. Huawei is still trying its luck with the MediaPad M5 in this market segment. The tablet, equipped with an 8.4-inch screen, was equipped by the FCC a visit.
The agency also published various photos of the mobile device. The relatively narrow edges and the home button below the display make the MediaPad M5 appear almost like an oversized smartphone and the fuselage with all-metal + hidden injection antenna. At the bottom, not only stereo speakers but also a USB-C port were installed. At these headphones must be connected, because there is not a 3.5-mm port.
Specifications
The upper-class tablet has a battery with not too impressive 4980 mAh installed and as already mentioned a SIM card slot. Regarding the further hardware, there is still no confirmed information. According to rumors, the display will resolve to 2560 x 1440 pixels and the memory has a size 6GB of Ram.

Furthermore, Android 8.0 Oreo is used as the operating system. A nougat-based tablet would also be less attractive in 2017. The chipset could be the HiSilicon Kirin 960, this SoC is used in the Huawei P10, for example. The Huawei MediaPad M5 will probably be officially launched at the MWC 2018.
