China’s smartphone manufacturer ZTE aims to launch a smartphone with faster 5G internet connectivity within the next 12 months, says Lysine Chen, the chief executive officer of the US subsidiary, quoted by Bloomberg.
The device will be introduced in the US at the end of 2018 or early 2019, Chen said in an interview with Bloomberg News. Plans may change depending on the availability of 5th-generation networks and the supply of the necessary chips. Chen claims the device will be a smartphone, but he suggests that a tablet or other device might be available.
According to data gathered by Bloomberg Intelligence, ZTE is not a significant player in the global market, with only a market share of 1.2% in the third quarter. However, the company is part of the group of Chinese phone manufacturers who compete with Apple and Samsung worldwide.

If ZTE launches a 5G smartphone in early 2019, it will probably be one of the first in the market, which may give it a chance to fight Apple and Samsung in terms of offering this feature.
