MediaTek may have lost an important partner, according to the latest rumors that have emerged recently. It seems that even Meizu, whose 2017 was characterized almost exclusively by the launch of smartphones based on SoC MediaTek (the only exception M6 Note ), has chosen to rely on the chips of Qualcomm and Samsung for its upcoming devices.
The news does not present any official character since it is rumored, however it seems that Meizu is about to present 6 new smartphones during the first half of 2018, including 5 with SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon and 1 based on Samsung Exynos. Meizu fans will be delighted to remember the 2015 Pro 5, with which the Chinese company was able to show the whole world a perfect implementation of the SoC Exynos 7420 even on a non-Samsung device.
Today this scenario is presented again, more than a year after the last experiment of this type that saw the launch of an unconvincing Pro 6 in 2016. According to some rumor, the Exynos device in question could be the Meizu 15 Plus spotted yesterday, which – we learn today – is nothing but a celebratory terminal for the 15 years of the company. This smartphone should represent a breaking point for Meizu, thanks to a totally new design that will allow it to compete again with other major Chinese and non-Chinese brands.
A picture of this phone was recently leaked. In it, we can see a device virtually without frames, with a design quite similar to the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2. In addition, on the front panel, we can see a camera sensor on the lower bezel. Although most frameless smartphones have a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device, Meizu has decided to keep the fingerprint sensor in its usual position; in the center of the lower level.
Should the presence of an Exynos SoC on 15 Plus be confirmed, it is difficult to assume that it could be the new Exynos 9810 that we will see on the upcoming Galaxy S9, so the most probable hypotheses are those that indicate the current Exynos 8895 as a possible candidate. As for the devices with SoC Qualcomm, we expect Meizu to cover all the main market segments with these smartphones: who knows that there is not even a model with Snapdragon 845 on the horizon.

The leaked image revealed two prices for the phone, suggesting that there will be variations of the device based on memory configuration. The higher-end version will cost more, which will cost 3,499 yuan ($528), while the base model is expected to cost 2,999 yuan ($453). Therefore, 2018 is expected to be a busy year for Meizu. Launching a phone a month is a big challenge that we hope the Chinese company can handle well. Of course, he will not have it easy; we already told you the reasons why Xiaomi will sweep in 2018.
