Another GoPro action camera model is coming to market, but this time the manufacturer could not keep it secret and the entire package of the new Hero 6 Black was available at a BestBuy store in Canada for anyone to see (and catch).
The new photos confirm that the new GoPro Hero 6 Black will follow the design of the previous model, with the same protection against water up to 10 meters deep.
The biggest change will be in the quality of the footage, which can be recorded in very high resolution 4K at 60fps, which was something expected by fans of the brand for years and is already present in many competitors. Still according to the pictures in the box of the device, you can also record in slow motion (240fps) in Full HD resolution.
In terms of performance, Hero 6 is approaching that of Apple’s new smartphones. We’re dealing with 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and Full HD at 240 frames per second, making it possible to shoot in slow motion at high quality. Photos will also remain at the same 12 megapixel resolution.
The rumors claim that GoPro will give up the image processor Ambarella, making the transition to a proprietary model called GP1. Virtually the two generations will not be so different from the hardware point of view, as the photo sensors may be the same, but the new processor would make it easier to record at high quality. Another advantage of using a proprietary processor could be to optimize energy consumption, which could lead to greater autonomy.
The “trick” room was discovered in a Best Buy store in Canada, where it was available on the shelf for the $650 Canadian dollar. Considering the usual conversion rate, this would be equivalent to $500 dollars, the same price as the Hero 5 last year.
The production also appears to be a new software update for the Karma drones, which could receive a “follow me” mode, similar to that on the competing drone from DJI, while the Karma Grip stabilizer could be upgraded hardware. The second generation might be closer to what DJI offers on the Osmo stabilizers with control via a joystick.
According to rumors, GoPro plans to officially launch the Hero 6 Black and the new updates at a presentation event to be held on September 28, when the action room would also be available in stores. The camera stock may have already been delivered to stores, an error leading to the sale of this model. Hero 6 Black will be cost at $499.
