Technology media Android Authority published a blog post today (August 9), stating that Google TV Streamer is the first device running Android 14 for TV system.
Android 14 for TV, also known as Android TV 14, is a special version of Android 14 that Google announced at this year’s I/O developer conference, specifically optimized for TVS.
At the I/O developer conference, Google did not reveal details about Android 14 for TV, which devices can be upgraded, or even released a beta version, but provided developers with an image of a simulation run in Android Studio.
Sources say that while the Google TV Streamer only comes with 4GB of RAM and still runs 32-bit Android, the box runs Android 14 for TV.
Based on media reports, Igeekphone briefly attached the Android 14 for TV system improvements as follows:
Reduce standby power consumption: Android 14 for TV introduces two modes of low energy consumption and optimized energy consumption, disabling certain functions when the TV is not in use to reduce standby power consumption.
Improved accessibility: Android 14 for TV adds color correction mode, enhanced text options and better navigation options.
Improved performance: Google has improved startup latency, reduced the cold start time of the launcher, optimized vertical and horizontal scrolling performance of the home screen, accelerated data loading, and reduced storage space usage by 20%.
Improved multitasking: A picture-in-picture mode was introduced.
Improve the Remote control experience: Add the native Find My Remote feature, which can be activated by pressing the button on the back of the Google TV streaming player.
Optimized network support: Android 14 for TV supports Android’s Thread network stack, allowing the set-top box to act as a Thread border router.
In addition to these changes, Android 14 for TV inherits many of the underlying platform changes in the base version of Android 14. One of these is a new API that lets applications embed custom activities in the device control interface.
