iGEEKPHONE news on June 14th, the minimalist mobile Phone Light Phone III was officially released, will start shipping in January 2025, the price is 799 US dollars, the first booking half price of 399 US dollars (IGEEKPHONE note: the current about 2896 yuan).
The previous generation of Light Phone II is currently priced at $299 (currently about 2170 yuan), released in 2018, six years after the official launch of the new Light Phone III.
The Light Phone III has an updated processor, a larger display and a larger battery, but it still features a minimalist, basic, 3.92-inch 1080 x 1240 resolution AMOLED black-and-white display (the previous model was 2.84-inch 480 x 600). Refresh rate increased to 60Hz, no more control stalling.
In addition, the Light Phone III features matte glass, which protects against glare when used outdoors. However, the eye protection effect of the screen is still not as good as the ink screen, the advantage is that the refresh rate is high enough.
The new machine also has a 50MP rear camera + 8MP front camera, supports fingerprint recognition, 5G network, uses IP54 waterproof and dustproof aluminum body, measures 106 x 72 x 12mm, weighs 124g.
Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 (SM4450) processor, it comes with 6GB of RAM + 128GB of storage, a USB 2.0 Type-C port, and an 1800mAh rechangeable battery.
The keys of the new machine are also more interesting, there is a scroll wheel on the left side of the body, rolling can adjust the screen brightness, and pressing can open the LED flashlight. The right side of the body has a physical photo button, similar to the Nokia Lumia photo button design, using two triggers, the first segment for focusing, the second segment for taking photos.
The Light Phone III supports Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, and 4G LTE and 5G networks. It also supports dual SIM cards thanks to integrated eSIM and nano SIM slots.
For audio, the Light Phone III has two microphones and a set of stereo speakers, but no headphone jack, so you can only use a Bluetooth headset or USB-C to headphone jack.
It runs a simple operating system called LightOS that comes with a set of basic “tools” (rather than apps), including:
Alarm clock, calculator, calendar, files, navigation, hotspots, music, notes/voice memos, podcasts, timers, calls, SMS
But according to The Verge, the company is at least considering adding support for popular services like Spotify, Uber, Lyft, or other messaging apps in the future.
