Apple has announced that it will hold a special event at 10 p.m. on May 7, and although Apple usually does not disclose the theme of the event in advance, the illustration of the invitation suggests that the event will be closely related to the iPad – the illustration includes an Apple Pencil. Not only that, Apple CEO Tim Cook also hinted on social media that the conference will launch a new Apple Pencil 3.
Igeekphone noted that Cook shared an illustration of the event on social media today, along with the caption “Mark the May 7 event!” He also added a Pencil emoji, further supporting the idea that Apple will unveil new ipads and new Apple Pencils at a special event called “Let Loose” on May 7.
The last time Apple introduced a new generation of Apple Pencil was back in 2018 (not counting last year’s more affordable USB-C version). At that time, the Apple Pencil was updated with a matte design, better grip, new double-tap gestures, and magnetic charging.
It is reported that the new Apple Pencil 3 May add a “find” function, just like finding AirPods and AirTags, to help users easily track and locate lost Apple Pencil. There are also rumors that the Apple Pencil 3 will have an interchangeable magnetic nib.
Tech site 9to5Mac also found multiple evidence that the new Apple Pencil will support some form of “squeeze” gestures. Perhaps the user can perform quick actions, such as adding text or a signature, while squeezing the surface of the pen.
Of course, an ipad-focused event would include a new iPad. Apple is rumored to be launching a new iPad Air with the M2 chip, and for the first time, a version with a larger 12.9-inch screen. The new iPad Pro will have an M3 chip, an OLED display and a slimmer design.
There are also reports that Apple will introduce a redesigned keyboard that will make the iPad look more like a traditional laptop, ditching the current hover design.
